On January 13, Dr. Jessica Watson was announced as the sole finalist to become the next Superintendent of Lamar County Schools. Tonight, the Board of Education officially voted to hire Dr. Watson, with all five members unanimously approving the decision.
Dr. Watson will replace the district’s long-standing leader, Dr. Jute Wilson, who has served at Lamar County Schools since 2014. Dr. Wilson’s tenure will end on Friday, February 7, 2025. Dr. Watson will begin her duties the following Monday, February 10, 2025.
Dr. Jessica Watson is a 19-year Lamar County resident who served several administrative roles at Thomaston-Upson Schools. Most recently, Dr. Watson was the Executive Director of Student Services and Secondary Curriculum at Thomaston-Upson.
