Barnesville will be ready for center stage with the recent addition of Flash Dance Company on Market Street downtown. Continuing the thirty-year legacy of Kim Ozier, Yatesville native Dallas Hemby recently bought Ozier Studio of Dance and has renamed the business to something both significant and personal. Hemby stated that her sons, Flynt and Nash, mean the world to her, so she combined their names to give the studio purpose and meaning.

Hemby has been busy at work this summer painting and refreshing the space so Flash Dance Company can be a destination for dance education in Lamar County and the surrounding area. When asked about her vision for the studio, Hemby’s passion was evident:

“I envision Flash as a joyful, safe, and empowering space where every dancer feels seen, celebrated, and inspired. Whether you’re stepping into a ballet class for the first time or you’re an experienced dancer, we want each student to feel like they belong—because they do.”

Hemby’s own dance journey began at the age of two in Thomaston under the direction of Linda Wright and later Sarah Armstrong. She continued her education through high school in a variety of styles, including ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, and lyrical. In addition to dance, she was also a competitive cheerleader. This wealth of knowledge and prior teaching and coaching experience will empower Hemby to set her own dance legacy now as a studio owner, a dream she has had since childhood. After meeting Ozier for lunch to get advice about running a dance studio, the two immediately hit it off and agreed that God’s timing was at work in their connection.

Registration for Flash Dance Company is now open, and classes will begin August 11. The studio offers classes ranging in ages from 18 months to adults, with the primary focus being on youth. Flash Dance offers ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, auxiliary, baton, hip-hop, and tumbling. The lineup of adult classes is coming soon with a plan to offer line dancing, dance cardio, and more.

Rising third-grader Mia Houston is already registered to learn the art of dance at Flash Dance Co.
Houston, a former Ozier dancer, is excited about upcoming classes.

Hemby looks forward to becoming deeply embedded in the life and culture of Barnesville through annual recitals and participating in local events, parades, and festivals, like our well-beloved hometown staple, Buggy Days. She strives to build a family-like atmosphere where “creativity shines in every corner.”

For more information about class offerings and registration, Hemby encourages interested families to visit her new website, www.flashdanceco.com. Additionally, you can follow the studio’s journey on Facebook or Instagram.
