The stage is set, and the performers are almost ready for the debut of Junie B. Jones Jr. this Thursday, October 9, at 6:30 pm. Twenty-seven Lamar County High School students, including seniors Diane Mauldin and Lily Yarbray, are set to take the stage at the Lamar County Fine Arts Center for an evening of catchy songs, heartfelt lessons, and humor.

Yarbray reflected on the opportunity to perform with the cast and crew when she said, “The sense of community that has gone into this show is something that can never be replicated…We’re all here to work for something we can be proud about, and it’s a really rewarding experience.”

Under the guidance of Choral and Theatre Director, Mrs. Jannie Zgoda, the students have worked tirelessly to prepare for multiple performances. The first performance will be the Community Show on October 9. Additionally, kindergarten through third graders at Lamar County Primary and Lamar County Elementary will be treated to this childhood classic on Friday, October 10, for a school day performance. Lastly, the cast and crew will travel to the GHSA Region 4A Division I One Act Competition on October 22.

Mrs. Zgoda reminisced about her love for the beloved book series, “Directing Junie B. Jones has been an absolute joy. This show bursts with energy, humor, and heart—just like Junie herself. Bringing her world to life on stage feels like revisiting an old friend, and I’m thrilled for audiences to laugh, sing, and celebrate the magic of growing up.”

At first, senior Diane Mauldin was not sure about being cast as lead character, Junie B. Jones. However, as rehearsals progressed, she expressed that she has come to love the role. Mauldin said, “Come see the show, because it’s gonna be great!”

The cast invites you to enjoy their musical adaptation of Junie B. Jones Jr. during the one-night-only Community Show. Tickets for adults are $10, students $5, and children under 5 are free. Tickets may be purchased through the GoFan app or online at gofan.co
