After the scrimmage in Butler last Friday night, Travis Ellington’s Lamar County Trojans look to showcase their talent and hard work for the home fans this Friday, August 8 at 7:30 in the evening. Friday night’s contest will feature the Wildcats from Schley County High School of Ellaville, Georgia.

The Wildcats were 13-1 last season, losing a close game to the Bowden Red Devils in the GHSA Semi-final round. Schley County High School will be competing in Region 6 of Class A Division II. Other regional competitors for the Wildcats include Central (Talbotton), Chattahoochee County, Crawford County, Macon County, Marion County, and Taylor County.

The Trojans were 9-3 last season falling to the state runner-up, Swainsboro High School. Lamar County’s athletic programs will be competing in yet another odd regional alignment this year, now in Region 4 of Class A Division I. Regional opponents for football will include Jasper County, McNair, Putnam County, Social Circle, Towers, and Utopian Academy.

The regular season officially kicks off next week, August 16. Lamar County will begin its season on the road at Telfair County for a non-regional contest. Lamar County’s home opener will be August 30 against neighboring rival, Jackson High School.
