Tennis season is in full swing at Lamar County High School, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams performing well in their opening matches.

Trojans Open Season at Upson–Lee

On February 13, Lamar County started the season with a strong showing at Upson–Lee High School, a squad that already had two matches under its belt. The girls’ team narrowly fell 2-3, with victories coming from Singles 2 player, Sydney Bacon (8-6) and Singles 3 player, Brailey Grubbs (8-4).

The boys’ team began the year with a win, beating the Knights 3-2. Kaleb Chute dominated his Singles 2 opponent 8-3, and the Doubles 1 team consisting of Carter McDaniel and Josiah Raynie delivered a crushing defeat, winning 8-1.

Lamar County with an Impressive Home Opener

The Hornets of Hampton High visited Lamar County in a highly competitive evening that ended at the twilight’s last gleaming. Hayes McBroom (Boys’ Singles 1) got his first win of the year (9-7). The girls’ team earned its first win of the season against Hampton, winning three games to two. Sydney Bacon won her Singles 2 matchup 8-6. Brailey Grubbs also won at the Singles 3 position, coming out on top 8-5. The girls’ Doubles 1 duo (Taryn Dender and Kylie Kington) won 8-6.

Lamar County Sweeps Towers in Region Opener

The Trojans had their first region matchup on February 27, a clean sweep of Towers for both the boys’ and girls’ teams. Adalynn Williams secured her first win of the young season (8-0). Sydney Bacon and Brailey Grubbs remain undefeated this year, both winning 8-0. Doubles partners, Taryn Dender and Kylie Kington won their second consecutive match 8-0. Boys’ singles one player, Hayes McBroom won his match 8-0, as well.

The Trojans hope to build on their successes coming into the month of March.
