Construction crews have been busy on some of Lamar County’s busiest roads, and the Georgia Department of Transportation has announced that another road improvement project will begin locally next week.
As part of its Quick Response Program, GDOT has identified a solution for traffic congestion on State Route 36 East (also known as Barnesville-Jackson Rd), specifically for eastbound drivers attempting to make a left turn into the Cole Forest subdivision via Cole Forest Boulevard.

GDOT will add a right-hand passing lane to allow vehicles to bypass those yielding to oncoming traffic. The improvement aims to keep traffic flowing eastward along one of Lamar County’s main arteries to Interstate 75, making commutes safer, smoother, and more efficient.

The project is said to begin on Monday, June 9, 2025, and is expected to be finished in 60 days.
GDOT mentioned to expect delays and advised drivers to proceed with caution through the construction site.
