Today is National Girls and Women in Sports Day. This special day was first created in 1987 when President Ronald Reagan issued a proclamation to honor the impact of female athletes and their accomplishments. The Gordon State College softball team hosted a free clinic in honor of women in athletics.
The event was held at Gordon’s softball complex on February 2 and hosted young athletes from Pre-K to 8th Grade. The Highlanders worked with the kids on various softball skills, including fielding, hitting, throwing, and baserunning.

The kids also got a chance to meet the Highlanders. The Gordon ladies serve as great role models for these young athletes, inspiring them to work hard, dream big, and continue growing in the game they love.
Coach Ally Hatterman said that 72 kids signed up, a great turnout for a day of learning and fun.
