“Beware the Ides of March,” said the soothsayer to Julius Caesar in Shakespeare’s classic.
March 15 is here with possible severe weather threatening the state of Georgia, including Lamar County.

Today, Governor Brian Kemp released an executive order issuing a State of Emergency. This is in response to the National Weather Service’s statements about potential hazardous weather. This includes a wind advisory with possible wind gusts of up to 40 miles per hour. This advisory is in effect until 5:00 AM on Sunday. North and central Georgia is also at a moderate-to-enhanced risk of tornadoes, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and possible flash flooding.
The National Weather Service has said that these strong winds may knock out power due to tree limbs being at risk. The NWS has also advised those in areas of concern to secure objects outside and drive carefully on the roads.
Governor Kemp has ordered the state’s resources to be made available to prepare and respond to potential natural disasters throughout Georgia.
The executive order will expire the night of Tuesday, March 18 unless the Governor decides to renew it.
