The Lamar County Trojans kept their undefeated region record alive last Friday night with a 22–6 victory over the Social Circle Redskins. The win pushed the Trojans to 9–0 overall. This victory creates quite a scenario for the final game of the season. On Halloween night in Monticello, Lamar County will face the 9–0 Hurricanes in a battle of unbeatens for the region championship.

Head Coach Travis Ellington said the victory over Social Circle was another example of how his team continues to find ways to win.

“We had a team effort,” Ellington said. “We made some big plays on defense and special teams. Things were not going well on offense, but our players kept on until we were able to make some things happen to help give us the lead. I was proud of our team. These wins have been all a TEAM effort. One side of the ball complements the other.”

Ellington emphasized that Lamar County’s special teams have been a crucial part of the Trojans’ success this season.

“Special teams have come up huge for us this year, and I’m proud of our team—really proud of them,” he said.

As the Trojans gear up for their toughest test yet, Ellington said it will take a complete performance to win in Monticello. Both teams are ranked by the Atlanta Journal–Constitution—Lamar County at 6 and Jasper County at 10. A year ago, the Trojans defeated the Hurricanes 28–6 at home.

“It will take a total Lamar County effort to go over there and play them,” Ellington said. “We need everyone from Lamar County to come over to Monticello and cheer us on. Thanks to all our fans who came out and supported us and our seniors this past Friday night.”
