On Tuesday night, the Lamar County girls basketball team defeated Northeast with a score of 54-48. Now, Lamar County will advance to the Sweet 16 round. The game will be played Friday night at 7:00 PM at the Lamar County High School gymnasium.

Coming to town is a familiar foe—Putnam County. The War Eagles, also members of Region 4-A Division 1, will make the trip to Barnesville for a rematch.

Lamar County’s record is 22-5, and Putnam County’s record is 16-9. Lamar County has already defeated Putnam County twice this season. The first matchup ended with a 61-55 Trojan victory on January 28 at home. Recently, Putnam County fell again to the Trojans and became runner-up in the region tournament. Lamar County looks to go 3-0 against this region rival and advance to the Elite 8. The winning team will face either Model or Central (Macon).
