Family, friends, teachers, and community members gathered at the Lamar County Schools Fine Arts Center on Tuesday, December 17, for Lamar County Middle School Drama Club’s performance of ‘Twas the Night Before the Night Before Christmas by Pat Cook. Club members included Adalyn Bloxham, Miley Gilbert, Khloe Mathis, Addisun Meadows, Sydney Rola, Jaycee Strickland, Carolina Thompson, Ellie Watkins, Piper Wise, and Journey Standridge. The Drama Club is directed by Elliott Ellington and Lauren Watkins.
Addisun Meadows took the stage in the lead role of Bailey Cox, a volleyball coach who unexpectedly becomes the new director of the City Council’s Christmas skit. To her surprise, the cast has nothing prepared, and the performance is only one day away. A mix of donuts, arguing, problem-solving, and finally, rehearsing, brings the dysfunction to a halt, allowing the City Council to present their own rendition of the holiday classic ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas—with a new twist. Each member of the fictitious City Council represented a different occupation, such as Khloe Mathis’ character, a doctor, or Ellie Watkins’ character, a meteorologist. The Drama Club members wore costumes that matched their respective occupations and delivered their lines with precision and wit.
Ellington and Watkins thanked Dr. Stephen Boyd for his support of the club and its members. They also acknowledged the behind-the-scenes efforts of Nick Easterling, Tammy and Bernie Anderson, and Jessica Adams, whose contributions—spanning lighting, microphones, set design, and videography—made the performance possible.
The Drama Club is set to begin rehearsals for its next production during the spring semester. Both Ellington and Watkins expressed excitement about the club’s future and were grateful for the positive feedback on their students’ hard work. The show was a delightful representation of camaraderie and teamwork with a touch of holiday magic.
