The Barnesville Police Department responded to a shooting on Railroad Street on June 29, 2025, at about 9:00 PM, in an incident that left one man injured.
Thirty-year-old Quintavious Searcy was shot in the leg with a 9mm handgun during an altercation with 21-year-old Jhontazz Goggins. Searcy was airlifted to receive medical attention.
Police Chief Belinda Penamon confirmed the shooting was not part of a broader threat to the public and that this was an isolated incident. The incident is being characterized as a family dispute. “All parties are regretful of the situation,” Chief Penamon added.
Following the shooting, Jhontazz Goggins turned himself in at the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, where he was booked into the Lamar County Jail. His bond is set at $15,000, and he is being charged with one count of aggravated assault.
Chief Penamon stressed the importance of thinking before reacting, especially when guns are involved. “Once you discharge a firearm, you can’t take it back,” she said, emphasizing the irreversible consequences of a split-second decision.
