The Lamar County School System planned to re-open to receive students and staff on Thursday, but the district has announced that there will be no school on Thursday, January 23.
This decision was made after assessing the safety of the county’s roads on Wednesday afternoon. Though some highways and streets were clear by 3:00 PM, several rural roads were deemed dangerous for travel. The Lamar County Sheriff’s Office expects that any water from the melted snow will freeze again after 6:00 PM.
This will be the third consecutive snow day for Lamar County Schools. The schools were also closed on Monday in honor of the Martin Luther King, Jr. national holiday. However, schools plan to be operating normally on Friday morning.
