Gordon President Donald J. Green spoke to donors and guests about the importance of financial support, reflecting on his own journey as a first-generation college student who relied on scholarships.

“I know firsthand how transformative that support can be. Your support is creating a legacy that impacts generations, just as it did for my children and me,” said Dr. Green.

Others shared how their scholarships eased financial burdens and opened doors to opportunity. Maelee Hendrix, a management and administration major and recipient of the Gordon Alumni Scholarship, said that the financial support helps students like her stay focused on their goals.

“As the youngest of four children who’ve all graduated from GSC, I’m responsible for funding my own education,” Hendrix said. “Your support lifts the financial burden, allowing students like me to focus on our futures.”

Mayor Kelly Hughes shared her experiences, as well, speaking from her past experience as a non-traditional student at Gordon. She spoke on the impact that generosity has on the recipient and the giver. “At the heart of giving is a sense of purpose and fulfillment,” said Mayor Hughes.

The luncheon on campus served as a powerful reminder of how scholarship support and financial generosity change lives.
