The Lamar County tennis teams wrapped up postseason play this week.

The girls, coming off a region championship, took on Swainsboro on Tuesday. They jumped out to a fast start, winning two of the three matches needed to advance. Brailey Grubbs, Kylee Kington, and Taryn Dender led the way for the team. Grubbs at Singles 3 earned a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory. The Doubles 1 team of Dender and Kington followed with a clean 6-0, 6-0 sweep of their own. Despite the early momentum, the team was not able to close out the third win and fell just short of moving on.

The Lady Trojans will lose one player to graduation this year, Adalynn Williams. She held down the Singles 1 position all season, earning credit for her relentless work ethic and wicked backhand swing.

Singles 3 Player, Brailey Grubbs

The boys, region runners-up, played Temple on Wednesday after a significant rain delay. Star senior Hayes McBroom delivered the team’s lone win at Singles 1 with a commanding 6-1, 6-2 performance, showing off his skills one last time at Lamar County.

Graduating players this year for the boys’ team are Hayes McBroom (Singles 1), Kaleb Chute (Singles 2), Carter McDaniel (Doubles 1), Josiah Rainey (Doubles 1), and Shonderick Wilson (Doubles 2).

While both teams came up short in advancing, the future remains bright for Trojan tennis.
