ATLANTA – The Lamar County Trojans held off a second-half rally by the McNair Mustangs last Saturday in DeKalb County’s Adams Stadium to make the game’s final tally 19-16. Although McNair out gained the Trojans with 365 yards of total offense to Lamar County’s 268, the Trojans found a way to win.
The Trojans’ running game was led by Kenyae Barnes, who ran for 94 yards on 4 carries. Qua Hughley added 54 yards on 7 carries, while Caleb Laster earned 43 yards on 7 carries. Barnes’ performance earned him Offensive Player of the Game honors.
On the defensive side, Kaden Carter had a standout game with 10 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 4 assists. Jermaine Doctor also played a vital role with 6 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 4 assists. Markiviyon Dugger had 6 tackles and 1 tackle for loss. Carter’s stellar defensive performance earned him Defensive Player of the Game.
On special teams, Jermaine Doctor blocked a crucial PAT, while Jordan McIntosh and RJ Starks performed well on kickoff coverage. Doctor’s blocked PAT earned him Special Teams Player of the Game.
The Trojans will travel to DeKalb County once again for another region contest. The game was originally scheduled for Thursday, October 3, but due to scheduling conflicts stemming from Hurricane Helene, a change had to be made to accommodate for the disruption. The Trojans and Titans will go to war on Saturday at Avondale Stadium at 2:00 PM. Avondale Stadium is located at 1192 Clarendon Ave, Decatur, GA.
