Trojans Complete Region Track Meet; Will Compete in Sectionals Today
April 24, 2024, BARNESVILLE, GA – Members of the Lamar County High School track teams put on impressive performances at the Region 4A Division 1 meet on April 24 at Trojan Field, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams earning second-place finishes. Highlights for the boys’ and girls’ teams are included below.
Boys’ Team Highlights
Sophomore Caleb Laster emerged as a standout performer for the boys’ team, winning both the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.06 and the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.17. Senior Aaron Crenshaw finished third in the 800-meter race with a time of 2:22.80 and third in the 1,600-meter race with 5:15.99.
Sophomore Jordan Anderson earned third place in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13:14.78. The Trojans excelled in the hurdles, with Senior Dejon Obermuller winning the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.52 and the 300-meter hurdles with 41.11. Sophomore Elijah Mitchell also placed third in these events, with times of 16.01 and 42.64, respectively.
In relay events, the boys’ team placed second in the 4×100-meter relay (45.09), the 4×200-meter relay (1:33.18), and the 4×800-meter relay (10:20.73). They finished third in the 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:19.34.
In the high jump, Ross Hamrick and Elijah Mitchell took second and third places, respectively, with heights of 6-02.00 and 6-00.00. Senior Terry Welch achieved a long jump mark of 20-00.00, while Senior Clint Williams tied for third in the shot put with a throw of 38-06.00.
Girls’ Team Highlights
Freshman Makayla Watts showcased her incredible talent by winning the 100-meter dash (12.31), the 200-meter dash (25.38), and the long jump (18-01.00). Senior Aniya Barron secured second place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.08, while Senior Samiya Smith finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.84.
Sophomore athlete Ava Bushby claimed victory in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:06.96 and took second place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:49.31. In the hurdles, Senior Deshunna Bowles secured second place in the 100-meter hurdles (17.88), with Junior Erireyonna Barkley finishing third (18.79). Barkley also placed second in the 300-meter hurdles.
The girls’ team won the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 49.81. They placed second in the 4×200-meter relay (1:51.99) and the 4×400-meter relay. The team finished third in the 4×800-meter relay.
In field events, Senior Kaylee Hamrick finished second in the high jump with a height of 4-08.00. Sophomore Madison Hardaway won the discus throw with a distance of 98-06.00, and Senior Journi Harris won the shot put with a throw of 35-11.50.
The Trojans will compete in the Sectional meet today at East Laurens High School in East Dublin, Georgia, where they hope to continue strong displays of strength, speed, and sportsmanship.
