Lamar County at Monticello

The Trojans traveled to Jasper County High School on March 6. The teams played two sets with a 10-point tiebreaker, if necessary. The only exception to this format was the Singles 1 boys’ match. Several matches included tiebreakers on a frigid evening at Monticello’s tennis complex. This was Lamar County’s second region opponent of the season, and the ladies earned another win.

Singles 1 player Adalynn Williams performed well, finishing a tiebreaking set with a fractured tennis racket. She won the first set 6-2 but lost the second set 4-6. The tiebreaker went to Monticello, 10-6. Sydney Bacon (S2) had a terrific evening, winning her sets 6-0 and 6-1. Brailey Grubbs (S3) was in command again, winning both sets 6-2. In a match that seemed as if it could last until morning, Hayes McBroom lost narrowly after winning the first set 6-3. Losing the second set 4-6, the match went into a third full set, where McBroom fell 5-7, both players exhibiting outstanding tennis skills. Singles 2 player Kaleb Chute also found himself in a highly competitive match. After winning the first set 9-7, Chute lost the second set 6-8. The tiebreaking set went to Monticello, ending at 12-10. Logan Christian lost his first set 4-6 but came back to win the second set 6-1, forcing the match to a tiebreaker. The Hurricane player won 10-4 in the third set.

Lamar County at Mary Persons

What was supposed to be back-to-back days of tennis between Lamar County and Mary Persons ended up being a one-and-done due to rainy weather. The Trojans traveled to Forsyth on Tuesday, March 11. Lamar County’s Brailey Grubbs won two sets at Mary Persons to remain undefeated this season, coming from behind in set two to put the match away. On the boys’ side, Hayes McBroom’s cool confidence propelled him forward in his Singles 1 match. The match went down to the wire, but McBroom came out on top.
