The Lamar County High School football team made a trip to Ellaville on Friday, August 9, for its final preseason scrimmage of the 2025 football season. The Trojans defeated Schley County 37-7 with the Wildcats finally putting points on the board in the waning seconds of the game.
Though the format was more game-like than last week’s Taylor County scrimmage, both squads were still able to get several athletes some solid football experience. Head Coach Travis Ellington mentioned that the varsity players competed in the first half. After halftime, varsity substitutes played in the third quarter. The junior varsity finished off the scrimmage in the fourth quarter.

“We saw some really good things from our team last night,” Ellington said. “We still have areas where we need to continue to get better, but overall, I am pleased with our team’s preseason.”
Coach Ellington mentioned the importance of getting several players in certain situations on film so the coaching staff can develop depth charts in all three phases of the game.
Ellington mentioned his offense has improved its timing, consistency, and blocking each week. The Trojans have several weapons who can “take it the distance” when given the chance to tote the rock. “We have become more balanced on the offensive side of the ball, making it more difficult for the defense,” he said.

Coach Ellington also praised his players defensively, mentioning depth and big defensive plays that he expects to carry over into regular-season play. “We created havoc on the defensive side of the ball [during the preseason scrimmages]. This has resulted in turnovers and defensive touchdowns.”
On special teams, Coach Ellington revealed that they have some positions to fill that will include new faces. “Several players are fighting for a starting position on special teams this season,” he said.

Overall, Ellington has high expectations about the upcoming season, stating with optimism, “We are right where we need to be.” He is encouraging all of Trojan Nation to come to Trojan Field this upcoming Friday night for the first game of the season. “Come help us shake down the thunder as we take on Telfair County!”
