In last week’s preseason game against Schley County, Lamar County had an impressive showing, beginning the game with a junior varsity quarter. The Trojans JV squad scored two touchdowns, and the defense was dominant in the first quarter of the game. Following the JV quarter, the varsity squads lined up for three quarters. Lamar County defeated Schley County 31-20 in a very electric, highly physical contest.

In their first regular season game, the Lamar County Trojans will travel to McRae, Georgia to face the Telfair County Trojans. Telfair County had a successful season last year, finishing the season with a 10-3 record, losing to state runner-up Manchester in the semi-final round of the GHSA Class A Division II playoffs.

Lamar County wants to set the tone early this season before beginning region play. The Trojans have won back-to-back region titles, and they hope to have some momentum going into region play starting in late September. The Trojans have next Friday as they prepare for the home opener against rival, Jackson.

For fans traveling to the game this Friday night, Telfair County has a set of safety measures that fans may need to prepare for. Telfair County High School has announced that fans will be required to walk through metal detectors upon entry. In addition, they will also enforce a clear bag policy. Bags must not be larger than 12 x 6 inches and small clutch bags must be 5 x 7 inches or smaller. Book bags, purses, gift bags, and satchels will not be permitted in the stadium. Also, Telfair County will not allow fans to enter the stadium with unsealed bottles or cups. All bottles must be sealed upon entry. Re-entry will not be allowed, so plan accordingly.
