The Trojans football team earned a 41-12 victory against Towers High School this past Saturday, making them 5-1 overall and 2-0 in region play. With four region opponents remaining on the schedule, Coach Travis Ellington is pleased with their current standing, especially after having to adjust to the unexpected back-to-back Saturday games. “Playing on Saturdays really gets players out of their routine. We worked hard to be prepared, and we’re proud of our players for how they handled it,” Ellington stated.

The Trojans had a total of 228 yards offensively, including 216 rushing yards. Standout performers included Markiviyon Dugger, who carried 4 times for 87 yards and a touchdown, Kaden Carter with 13 carries for 71 yards and a touchdown, Kenyae Barnes who earned 37 yards and a score on 3 carries, and Qua Hughley who scored a touchdown on his 5 carries for 17 yards. Ross Hamrick scored on a two-point conversion.

The Trojans were tough defensively. Lamar County’s defense held the Titans to just 80 total yards. Bryson Johnson led the team with 7 solo tackles, 2 assists, 4 tackles for loss, and a sack. Jermaine Doctor had 6 solo tackles, 2 assists, 2 tackles for loss, and a pass deflection. Jahnizae Few had 3 solo tackles, 2 assists, a QB hurry, 2 pass deflections, and a pick-six.

On special teams, placekicker, Caleb Miller was perfect on PATs and did very well kicking off. Kenyae Barnes had 93 yards on returns.

This week, Lamar County is preparing to host Utopian Academy on Friday night at Thunder Alley, and Travis Ellington is hoping his team can iron out some wrinkles this week. “We still have to get better and make sure we don’t do things to hurt our success on the field like non-hustle penalties and missed assignments,” Ellington said. The game will be the first home game since the team’s loss to Westside.
