College football fans know the importance of National Signing Day. Die-hard supporters across the country closely track how their favorite teams fared, waiting to see which new athletes will shape the next few seasons. For the athletes themselves, this day carries even more weight. It’s one of the most significant moments of their young lives, a decision that can define their future both on and off the field.
Today, Lamar County High School’s Kaden Carter put pen to paper and signed his letter of intent to play football at the University of Maryland.

A star in all three phases of the game as a Trojan, Carter was recruited to play linebacker for the Maryland Terrapins. Both 247Sports and Rivals (On3) have Carter rated as a three-star recruit with a player rating of 88.67. He is the highest-rated football player to come out of Lamar County High School since CJ Allen signed with the University of Georgia.

Maryland—a Division I FBS football program—is a member of the Big Ten Conference. After beginning the 2025 season with four straight wins, the Terps failed to capitalize on their strong start and finished 4–8. Maryland fans hope its new recruiting class, including Kaden Carter, will give the program more success in the years to come.

Carter and the Maryland coaching staff are not waiting to get started. He will graduate early from Lamar County High School in December and head to College Park, Maryland in January, where he will enroll for the spring semester and begin his college career as a Terrapin.
Carter’s signing is a proud moment for Trojan Nation and another reminder that Lamar County High School produces accomplished and skilled athletes.
