The Editor
Hello, Barnesville and beyond! I'm Grant Turner, the editor and founder of the Barnesville Buzz. Born and raised in Barnesville, I've been privileged to grow up in this vibrant community, a place I'm proud to call home. From my days at Lamar County Comprehensive High School, class of 2013, to my ongoing journey in education and community service, every step has deepened my connection to this place and its people.
After high school, I pursued and obtained a B.S. in Education from Gordon State College in 2017. I'm currently enhancing my skills and knowledge at Georgia Southern University, working towards a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction.
Since 2017, I've had the honor of working in the Lamar County School System, where I wear multiple hats with great pride: coaching football and tennis, and teaching 8th Grade Georgia Studies. These roles have allowed me to help shape the future of our community through its future leaders.
In addition to these roles, I am the director of musical worship at New Hope Baptist Church in Zebulon, GA, where I also serve as a Sunday school teacher. These roles have enriched my life immeasurably, and I am humbled that God has allowed me to serve the people of his kingdom.
On a personal note, I am happily married to Haley Brannan Turner, since 2021. Together, we enjoy exploring the cultural charm of our city, binge-watching our favorite television shows, and dancing in every room of the house. I could not have asked for a greater life partner and helpmate.
The Barnesville Buzz was born from a desire to serve and celebrate our community in all its diversity and vibrancy. Through this platform, I aim to bring you stories that matter, from the critical updates that keep us informed to the uplifting narratives that bring us together. It's my way of giving back to the community that has given me so much, fostering a sense of pride and belonging among us all. Ultimately, I have tied my role as editor to this verse of Scripture found in Proverbs 16:24: "Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body" (ESV).
Thank you for welcoming the Barnesville Buzz into your homes and hearts. Your stories, feedback, and readership are what make this endeavor so rewarding. Let's continue to celebrate the beauty, strength, and unity of our Lamar County, one story at a time. I'm always eager to hear from you, so please feel free to reach out at grant.barnesvillebuzz@gmail.com—whether it's to share a story, offer feedback, or just say hello.
