The Lamar County School System will partner with local law enforcement and emergency response agencies Friday, July 24, for a full-scale school safety exercise.
The exercise will involve the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office, Barnesville Police Department, Lamar County Fire Rescue, EMS and other public safety agencies. According to the school system, the training is intended to strengthen coordination between schools and first responders in the event of an actual emergency.
School officials emphasized that the exercise is planned training and that there is no threat to the public.
As part of the exercise, portions of Georgia Highway 18 and Burnette Road near the training area will be temporarily closed from approximately 9 to 10:30 a.m. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to avoid the area or use alternate routes during that time.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we work together to enhance the safety and preparedness of our schools and first responders,” Superintendent Dr. Jessica Watson stated in the public notice.
