Lady Trojans Sweep Swainsboro, Set for Sweet 16 Showdown Against Social Circle at Aldora Field

The Lamar County Lady Trojans varsity softball team dominated the first round of the playoffs, defeating Swainsboro in a doubleheader at Aldora Field on Friday, October 18. With these victories, the Lady Trojans have moved on to the Sweet 16 round, where they will face Social Circle in a best-of-three series.

Game 1

In the first game, the Trojans enjoyed a hard-earned 5-3 victory. Ashlyn Kelley, Kaden Flournoy, and Brayleigh Ziehme provided much of the offense, combining for four of the team’s five hits. Although the Lady Tigers got off to a fast start with a two-run first inning, Lamar County responded promptly, taking advantage of an error and back-to-back RBI hits by Ziehme and Flournoy to take a 4-2 lead. A third-inning RBI single by Kelley sealed the game, giving Lamar County their final run of the night. Centerfielder, Bailey Gunter led the team in RBIs (2) in Game 1.

Lilly Tavares pitched a complete game. The Lady Tigers had only one earned run on four hits. Tavares struck out four batters.

Game 2

The second game was a blowout. Lamar County’s offense was rocking, scoring eight runs in the first inning, eventually leading the team to a 15-0 victory and a series sweep. The game was shortened to three innings. Hailey Stanley’s two-run double, combined with key hits from Brayleigh Ziehme, Addison Nail, Caitlynn Whitaker, and Kylee Kington, put the game out of reach for the Tigers. The offensive downpour continued in the second inning, the Trojans earning seven additional runs.

Dakota Crowley received the win, throwing three shutout innings and allowing only one hit. The Trojans committed no errors defensively.

Sweet 16

With the sweep over Swainsboro, the Lady Trojans advance to the Sweet 16 and will host Region 4 rival Social Circle on Thursday, October 24, at Aldora Field. Game 1 will begin at 4:00 PM, followed by Game 2 at 6:00 PM. If necessary, Game 3 will take place on Friday, October 25, at noon. Lamar County is 1-2 against Social Circle this season, the most recent game being a 9-3 win in the region tournament on October 8.
