10U Allstars Begin the World Series 2-0

BATON ROUGE, La.—The Lamar County 10U Allstars are turning heads in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after two impressive victories during the first day of their World Series tournament. Their victories against the St. James Parish (LA) and St. Bernard Parish (LA) have put our hometown boys in a prime and promising position.

In their first game, the Lamar County 10U Allstars defeated the St. James Parish 10U All-Stars 5-4 in a nail-biter. After St. James took the lead in the second inning, Lamar County responded in the bottom of the inning. Nate Griffis and Blake Matthews proved to be patient in the batter’s box, getting on base with walks. Later, an error by St. James added to Lamar County taking a 3-1 lead. St. James fought back in the top of the third, tying the game at 3.

Offensively, Cameron Stephens and Dailan Evans each had a hit for Lamar County. Defensively, Lamar County impressively committed zero errors in the field. From the mound, Jaxon Sloan started the game, pitching two innings with five strikeouts while giving up zero hits and three earned runs. Lamar’s lucky lefty, Dailan Evans was a standout, earning the win with an impressive performance on the mound. Evans pitched two innings, striking out four and allowing no hits or runs.

In their second game, the Lamar County 10U Allstars dominated the St. Bernard Parish with a 14-6 win. Lamar County had an outstanding first inning, scoring 10 runs. This early rally set the tone for the game.

Dailan Evans earned a triple, driving in one run in the first inning. This was followed by singles by Cohen Epperson, Cameron Stephens, Blake Matthews, Colby Guthrie, and Kason Samples. Jaxon Sloan walked, adding another run for the boys from Lamar County.

The team expanded their lead in the third inning thanks to solid at-bats by Colby Guthrie, Trevor Smallwood, Jaxon Sloan, and Dailan Evans.

Overall, Lamar County showcased their offensive dominance with 11 hits. Dailan Evans led the team with two RBIs, going 1-for-3. Cohen and Jaxon each had two hits, contributing significantly to the team’s success.

Colby Guthrie earned the win in the second game, pitching one inning and allowing zero hits while striking out one and walking two. Layton Selph did a great job relieving, pitching a scoreless inning with two strikeouts.

Lamar County will face Iberville (LA) on Thursday. They are looking to carry their momentum into the next round of the World Series tournament. Stay tuned to the Barnesville Buzz for more updates on the Lamar County 10U Allstars’ journey in the World Series.
